Call for Expression of Interest for Assistant-Associate-Full Professor Positions - University of Trento, Department of Information Engineering and Computer Science

The Department of Information Engineering and Computer Science (DISI) at the University of Trento invites expressions of interest in view of the opening of new positions at the level for Tenure Track Assistant Professor and Tenured Associate/Full Professor Positions.

The Department expects candidates with significant accomplishments who are committed to reach further promising achievements in the areas of Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Communication and Information Engineering. Successful candidates for the positions will be expected to have a strong publication record and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. The candidates should have a proven record of participation and possibly leadership in research projects and experience in teaching in English in graduate institutions. Knowledge of Italian is appreciated but not required.

The Department of Information Engineering and Computer Science

The University of Trento has systematically ranked in the top tier positions in Italy in the past 10 years. The Department of Information Engineering and Computer Science (DISI), founded in 2002, covers the main topics of information technology and engineering. It actively promotes education and research across interdisciplinary areas with members of the departments of Computer Science, Engineering, Economics, Sociology and Cognitive Sciences. The Department is a vibrant environment with 44 faculties (average age is 46 years), several of its members have held previous positions outside Italy in universities or multi-national corporations.

Research Areas

The research work at DISI counts on a network of connections at international level, has three main objectives: frontier research, knowledge transfer, and technology transfer. To achieve these goals, the research activity of the Department is organized in different research programs, which sum up the three organizational dimensions of strategic research at DISI: methodological research – that generates and disseminates theory within the scientific community; technological areas - where complementary methodologies combine to create application-oriented technologies; and application labs - where researchers collaborate with industrial partners, research centers, and end-users to demonstrate the feasibility of advanced solutions and create new technology transfer solutions.

Teaching

The Department offers top-ranked MSc, MEng, and PhD programs in EE and CS taught exclusively in English and designed for an international student audience. The University of Trento offers a double degree Master of Science program in ICT Innovation within the European Institute of Technology EIT-Digital, of which Trento is a core partner.

Terms and Conditions

Assistant professors are expected to teach 60-90 hrs/year depending on seniority, while duties for Associate and Full professors are 120 hrs/year. The position holder will have a personal grant for research/travel expenses. The research group will negotiate the possibility of supervising PhD students fully funded by the University.

A bonus for years in service is accrued at 13.5% of the yearly gross salary and is paid at time of retirement, severance or leave. Professors may supplement their base salary by industrial consultancies and grants up to twice their base salary. The employer pays social security charges. Medical insurance is included. Post-holders who have not been resident in Italy in the past two years may benefit of a special tax-exemption.

Expressions of interest in English should include a CV (including a list of publications and a brief description highlighting the three most significant publications), a research statement and a teaching statement (up to two pages each), the names and addresses of at least three referees.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to Trento for a presentation and an interview.
